The RBC Associate Employer Program recently reached its 100th hire. Launched in 2012 in partnership with RBC, the program supports RBC’s small- and medium-sized businesses based in the Greater Toronto Region by connecting their clients with skilled newcomers to Canada who fit their employment needs.
In addition to hiring almost 1,000 interns through Career Edge, RBC incentivizes their business clients to share their commitment to launching careers of individuals facing barriers to employment. The award-winning financial institution offers hiring subsidies to clients that hire skilled newcomers through Career Edge paid internships.
Small World Music, a charity that works with diverse cultural groups to encourage the interchange of community cultural activities, hired – as the 100th RBC Associate Employer Program intern – a skilled newcomer from Poland as their Marketing and Community Engagement Manager.
Small World Music Founding Director Alan Davis said, “As an organization that has worked for over two decades to celebrate diversity and support the careers of newcomer artists, it’s a natural fit to offer these opportunities with the support of Career Edge. We recognize the importance of providing much-needed Canadian experience for qualified people making a new home here.
“Both ‘sides’ of the ‘hiring equation’ benefit from this program – the employer is supported in its human resources needs, while the newcomer benefits from the experience and mentoring available from their new team. Finally, the goodwill generated by ‘doing right’ by newcomers helps them and the country as a whole.”
